Aes Ambelis Winery

Cyprus

(Europe)

The winery was founded in 1992 and is located on the slopes of Kalo Chorio Orinis in the Nicosia district. The winery is surrounded by a three hectare vineyard, planted with the grape varieties Maratheftiko and Shiraz. All vineyards are managed with extra care using environmentally friendly farming practices.
All the necessary facilities are available, and the business undertakes to organise events such as tasting tours, receptions, conferences and other events. The winery is open all year round for public visits and tastings. During the tour they can explore the surrounding vineyard and the inner workings of the winery, including fermentation and barrel aging and conclude the overall experience with a wine tasting. Guests have the choice to accompany their tasting with artisanal cheese and charcuterie selections from local traditional producers. The winery’s retail store offers for sale wines, wine accessories, as well as, a carefully sourced selection of traditional food products.

Benefits

The winery contributes to the regeneration and preservation of the traditional vineyards of the Kalo Chorio while protecting the local rural landscape. This local business creates a positive impact in several fields, such as:
Environment – All vineyards are managed with extra care using environmentally friendly farming practices.
Society – has significantly boosted business activity in a rural area, creating sustainable and quality jobs. At the same time, it is a good example, especially for young people, for engaging in the industry.
Tourism – Aes Ambelis Winery attracts visitors and organises tours of the winery. It also produces quality Cypriot wines which sell as a good advertisement for the island.

Key Success

The most important success factor for the business is the quality of the wines produced and the inclusion of the visitors in the wine making process. The opportunity is given to visitors to take a winery tour that follows the wine-making process from grape to glass. The winery itself has a unique architectural style which includes the modern winemaking facilities, while it is surrounded by a three hectare vineyard, and beautiful gardens. Visitors can also have a wine tasting experience where they will be able to smell and taste the quality awarded wines produced at the winery.
