(Non European countries)

Arataki Honey® is New Zealand’s most popular Honey brand. Family-owned business has three manufacturing sites across New Zealand, it employs over 100 people and is home to 1.5 billion bees.

At the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre they provide engaging learning experience to their visitors, where one can learn everything about the bees, honey making and the importance of bees for guaranteeing world’s food supplies. There is also an observation window onto their outdoor hives, where in summer it is possible to watch a beekeeper at work. Also, visitors can dress up as a beekeeper, see the bees up close, learn about and taste their different honey varieties. Their tour in an interactive environment is awarded a gold qualmark label, New Zealand tourism’s official mark of quality.

At Arataki Honey they promote best practice beekeeping. This includes encouraging the growth of good pollen and nectar sources, managing hive health, and being aware of residues that may be harmful to bees.

Benefits

The Arataki Honey exemplifies regenerative food tourism by having a strong focus on sustainability, preserving cultural heritage of Manuka honey, enhancing local economy, and providing engaging visitor experiences at their Arataki Honey visitor centre that build awareness on the importance of bees and providing healthy environment for them to assure the world’s food supplies. Also, with pollination services and live bee export, the company contributes to national and global world food supplies. Being devoted to maintain people workforce instead of machine-led processes, the company employs over 100 people and collaborates with many local beekeepers, contributing to social wellbeing of local people and community. Producing certified Manuka Honey, a specialty honey from the nectar of the mānuka tree, which is indigenous to New Zealand and some parts of coastal Australia, the company protects and promotes cultural heritage and local gastronomy.
