The Biomarket is a market made up of local organic food producers and providers that takes place in Caceres, UNESCO World Heritage City, in a location dedicated originally to guilds and merchants in the 16th century. The outstanding feature is that, due to national regulations, there were certain restrictions for the producers to directly sell their products, while at this very moment, that is considered the most sustainable way of trading, which favours the revival of this activity.
the Biomarket facilitates, through the stands, the exchange of points of view and experiences related to ecological products. This allows the individuals to feel identified with the purchase they make, allowing to preserve, in a certain way, the local ecosystem.
It sets aside extensive and aggressive agricultural techniques, both because of the machinery and the degree of concentration in planting. With this, the clear intention that they select quality over quantity is evident. In addition, thanks to this, it allows the farmland to recover the properties (known as “natural fertilisers and nutrients”), ruling out the risk of depletion of the land.
The target audience is more than clear: one who is aware of the importance of preserving the local environment, hand in hand with the conservation and maintenance of the natural properties and characteristics that differentiate a local product from that which we can find in the large food product sales chains.
The Biomarket of producers holistic manage of herd of merinos, organic orchards with visits by consumers offering exceptional quality products. Besides, the “Foro de los Balbos”, also called “Corregidor’s atrium”, is a small space to the south of the Plaza Mayor in Cáceres, attached to the wall of the monumental city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. That is the location where this activity is carried out, bringing together all the producers in the vicinity, forming a market for the sale of natural, local and ecological products.
