Golden Donkeys Farm is located in Skarinou village, halfway between Larnaca and Limassol. When building it, the owners were based on their love and care for sustaining the Cyprus traditions, aiming to help preserve the heritage of Cyprus – friendly and industrious animals, which many centuries faithfully served the Cypriots. Today the farm is a home for around 170 donkeys, and each of them has its own name and character. Nowadays, the farm is the biggest donkey farm in Cyprus and probably, one of the biggest in Europe. The majority of animals are females, in order to produce milk. Milking is done in a specially designed space, in accordance with the requirements of the EU.
At the farm donkey milk products as well as olive products are produced and sold at the shop. The farm hosts school trips, corporate events, weddings, and baptisms, and also offers interactive tourist excursions during the summer.
This is a unique initiative that helps preserve tradition, protect the natural landscape and attract visitors at the same time. In various creative ways and activities the Golden Donkey Farm has managed to create a reputation and become a self-sustained business. It has a positive impact on several levels like environment, society, tourism and cultural heritage.
It has significantly boosted business activity in a rural area, creating sustainable and quality jobs and acts as a good example for the industry. It is considered a quality tourist product offering authentic experiences. Through the activities organised tradition is preserved and at the same time indigenous flora and fauna are both promoted and preserved.
The farm offers a unique experience as it is the biggest donkey farm in Cyprus. Special activities and workshops are frequently organised offerin positive impressions and unforgettable emotions for the visitors. For example riding the donkeys in the surrounding area, taking a picture with the friendly animals and feeding them. The calm atmosphere will melt away any stress and make you feel completely relaxed.
Moreover, in this farm you will also find a lot of other interesting things such as: the wax museum, the traditional Cyprus house, an ancient olive press, a small botanical garden, as well as our cozy restaurant and a souvenir shop.
Excursions and traditional workshops such as “bread making”, “olive picking and olive oil production are organised for all ages. Also tasting of farm products such as donkey milk and organic olive oil is offered. Traditional meals and Cypriot dances with professional dancers are part of the experience. Moreover school excursions are organised.
