The businesses story dates back to 1920 when the owners’ great grandparents Chrysostomos and Androniki started producing wine, zivania and soutzoukos and sold them to local fairs and nearby villages. Today, three generations later, the business operates the same production unit in Oikos Village of Marathasa Valley as a family business with a rich, decades-long history of success and innovation. Following the same recipes and adapting them to modern production techniques, the purest and finest traditional delicacies and dried nuts are produced. Besides its online shop, a flagship store is located in Tseriou Avenue in Strovolos, Nicosia. All products are available for wholesale purchase by contact.
“Marathasa Valley Nuts” promotes healthy, quality, traditional food products which are produced with pure natural ingredients. Special attention is given to local products which are part of the Cypriot tradition. The business has regenerative benefits for the society as it promotes and contributes in the preservation of traditionally culinary products produced locally. It has significantly supported and boosted business activity in a rural and remote area, (Oikos village) creating sustainable and quality jobs. At the same time, it is a good example, especially for young people, for engaging in the industry. On a touristic level it offers visitors the opportunity to visit the production facilities and try a vast variety of quality, authentic, traditional Cypriot products.
The Critical success factors of the business identified is the wide range of quality products offered, as well as, the interpersonal relationships with customers. The store opened its doors in 2019 and it’s a spacious, modern shop that combines its very own dried nuts and traditional products with hand-picked herbs and spices, homemade marmalades, carefully mixed teas, locally produced wines, chocolates and many more delicacies. The store won the 2019 Golden Award for the “Traditional Shop” category at the Cyprus Retail Excellence Awards. All products are fresh, made on a daily basis at the production facility in the village of Oikos in Marathasa. The business also offers a variety of customisation services to cater to your special occasions or corporate events!
