Monestevole is a small hotel in Umbertide, Italy, taken over by a German family in 2021 with the idea of creating a space for a fulfilled life surrounded by nature, sustainable living and animal rearing. In other words, “a beautiful model for sustainable living and the celebration of Umbrian culture”, where people can relax and enjoy the beauty of the land and savor their “very own slice of the Italian good life”.
Visitors to Monestevole, for example, can enjoy the restored farmhouse, horses, pigs, chickens and dogs while spending time with nature. Sustainable technologies such as photovoltaic, thermal solar energy, rainwater harvesting and recycling are part of daily life at Monestevole. Additional services such as on-site massages, yoga classes, wellness retreats and excursions, among other things, are available on request.
The lodge also offers family activities where guests are involved in the process of planting trees and scattering seeds in an interactive way (an activity for children). The lodge also offers culinary experiences where guests learn how to make pasta and cheese. All produce is sourced from the lodge’s own orchard and farm.
The regenerative benefits of planting trees or attending workshops organised by farmers and artisans of the region can help guests learn about sustainable practices in food production and craft making. This can lead to a deeper appreciation of the local environment and culture, and may even inspire guests to adopt sustainable practices in their own lives. By supporting local farmers and artisans, guests are also contributing to the local economy and helping to promote sustainable economic development. All of these actions help to reduce the carbon footprint of travel, promote sustainable economic development, and foster personal well-being and a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
